The news you've all been waiting for - the events for the 2018 Australian Strongman Alliance Nationals! For the events with TBA weights, these will be honed prior to the event but plan on them being very challenging.

Unless specified, the event weights will be the qualifying weights for the Official Strongman Games.

EVENT 1 - Frame Carry

Weights
62.5 - 160kg
72.5/Masters - 170kg
82.5 - 180kg
Open Women - 200kg

80 - 240
90/Masters - 260
105 - 280
Open Men - 300

Rules
At the judges 'Start' call, the competitor will have a maximum time of 60 seconds to carry a frame, starting from behind the designated start line. The competitors may start with their hands on the frame, but it must remain on the ground until the start call is given. Once the competitor finishes the 20m course by having the rear of the frame completely cross the line, their time will be recorded. Competitors are not allowed any drops within the 20m course, including if they cross the line but the rear most feet of the frame do not before it touches the ground. Event placings will be decided first by the total time taken to complete the course, followed by the total distance their attempt was short of the 20m, measured from the rearmost part of the frame.

Competitors may wear a maximum of 2 belts; one hard and one soft. These may be layered, but cannot be stacked up the torso. Knee and elbow sleeves may be worn, as well as knee wraps. Briefs/warm pants may be worn. Chalk is the only substance to be applied to the hands.

Qualifying
To be eligible to qualify for the Official Strongman Games, the competitor must have completed the 20m course with zero drops.

EVENT 2 - Log Clean and Press

Weights
62.5 - 50/60
72.5/Masters - 60/70
82.5 - 70/80
Open Women - 80/90

All women will use a 10" log

80 - 90/110
90/Masters - 105/125
105 - 110/130
Open Men - 130/150

All men will use a 12" log

Rules
At the judges 'Start' call, the competitor will have a choice of 2 logs to press within a maximum time period of 60s. They may choose whatever log they want, and can change between them as often as they want. The log must be cleaned from the ground, and then locked out overhead with the feet in line, knees/hips/elbows locked, the head 'through' and athlete showing control of the log in this position. After the judge is satisfied the rep is locked out, the competitor will be given a 'Down' call, where they must then show control of the implement to the ground. Failure to wait for the 'Down' call or deliberately dropping the log will result in a no rep - no warnings. After the log has then touched the ground, providing they are within their allocated 60 seconds, the competitor may have another attempt at a rep until their time is up. The logs are weighted for scoring - one rep on the heavier log will beat any number of reps on the light log. The event will be scored by whoever gets the largest combination of reps (ie. 1 heavy/1 light beats 5 light reps).

Competitors may wear a maximum of 2 belts; one hard and one soft. These may be layered, but cannot be stacked up the torso. Knee and elbow sleeves may be worn, as well as wrist. Chalk is the only substance to be applied to the hands.

Qualifying
To be eligible to qualify for the Official Strongman Games, the competitor must have completed a successful rep with the heavier log.

EVENT 3 - Implement Carry/Load

Implement weights TBA

Rules
At the judges 'Start' call, the competitor will have a maximum time of 60 seconds carry and load 3 successive implements. The competitor may start with their hands on the first implement, but it cannot leave the ground. Once the implement carried for the total distance to the loading area, the competitor must then load the implement to a height of 1.2m. After loading, the competitor must first make sure that the implement does not fall before returning for the next implement - if it does, they will have to re-load until their can continue. Split times for the implements are determined by a successful load, and their hands being 'off'.

The implements and distance they will have to be carried before loading are as follows:
Keg - 10m
Natural Timber - 5m
Natural Stone - 0m

The event is scored via whoever loads the last implement in the shortest time, followed by the second implement in the shortest time, etc.

Competitors may wear a maximum of 2 belts; one hard and one soft. These may be layered, but cannot be stacked up the torso. Knee and elbow sleeves may be worn. Chalk is the only substance that may be applied.

Qualifying
To be eligible to qualify for the Official Strongman Games, the competitor must successfully load all 3 implements within the maximum allowable time of 60 seconds.

EVENT 4 - Hercules Hold

Weights TBA

Rules
At the judges 'Start' call, the competitor will start holding the apparatus in each hands for the maximum amount of time they can manage. Any grip or position may be used, but the competitor must be standing in the allocated position. As soon as the apparatus leaves either hand, the competitors time will be recorded. The event will be scored by whoever can hold onto the apparatus for the longest period of time.

Competitors may wear a maximum of 2 belts; one hard and one soft. These may be layered, but cannot be stacked up the torso. Knee and elbow sleeves may be worn. Chalk is the only substance that may be applied to the hands.

EVENT 5 - Max Deadlift

Rules
Prior to the event, competitors will give their opening attempts to the scorers, which will determine the run order of that flight of lifters (maximum of 15 people per flight). Once their name is called, the competitor has a maximum time of 60s to approach the bar and attempt to get a successful lift. There is no 'Start' call. Once the competitor is judged to be standing upright with the knees locked, hips locked, shoulders neutral and have control in this position, the judge will give the competitor a 'Down' call. Once receiving a down call, the competitor must show control of the bar to the ground. Failure to wait for a 'Down' call, or any dropping/throwing of the bar will result in an immediate No Lift - no warnings. Whether successful or unsuccessful, the competitor will then give their next attempt to the scorer, until they have had a total of 3 attempts. The nominated attempt can never be less than the previous attempts - the attempt must be the same (if unsuccessful), or higher. One change to the bar weight may be made on the second and third attempt before your name is called for your attempt, but it cannot result in the bar needing to be made lighter. Hitching and lapping is allowed.

Competitors may wear a maximum of 2 belts; one hard and one soft. These may be layered, but cannot be stacked up the torso. Knee/elbow sleeves may be worn, as well as deadlift straps. Briefs/deadlift suits may be worn. Chalk is the only substance that may be applied to the hands, and talc the only substance allowed to be applied to the thighs.

Qualifying

To be eligible to qualify for the Official Strongman Games, the competitors must achieve the following minimum lifts:
62.5 - 150
72.5/Masters - 165
82.5 - 180
Open Women - 200
